Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled in connection with Frugal Hog at https://frugalhog.com (the Site). It is effective as of October 6, 2026. It should be read with our Terms of Use and our Disclosure. The Site is a small, static informational blog, and we have tried to describe what actually happens, including the many points where facts are still unknown, instead of making promises that we cannot support.
Who We Are, Scope and Effective Date
Frugal Hog is a standalone informational blog about spending less and saving more. The Site owner has not supplied a legal entity name, individual name or postal address, and so we do not state one here. In this policy, we and our refer to the people and entities that own and operate the Site. This policy applies to the Site, to the contact form on the Contact page and to email sent to hello@frugalhog.com. It does not apply to external websites, apps, retailers or services that the Site links to, and it does not describe the practices of our infrastructure providers, which have their own policies. The Site is built with Astro, published through the MTC publishing service on Cloudflare, and the domain is managed in Cloudflare. The Site is operated without user accounts, comments, a newsletter, analytics or advertising, and we do not operate a database of reader personal information. This policy was last updated on October 6, 2026.
Information We Collect and How
Information you provide
The Site does not ask you to create an account, sign up for a newsletter or post comments. You can give us information in two ways: through the contact form on the Contact page, or by emailing hello@frugalhog.com. If you do, we may receive your email address, your name if you include it, the content of your message and anything else that you choose to type or attach, as well as technical details that email systems attach, such as the date and time and the sending server. The fields shown on the form control what the form asks for, and you should provide only what is needed for your question. Messages from the form and email sent to the address are forwarded through Cloudflare to the operator’s private inbox, which is not published. After forwarding, the operator’s mail provider handles the messages under its own practices, which we have not identified. Delivery of messages has been set up but has not yet been confirmed by a live test, so we cannot say that a particular message was received. Please do not send sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, account numbers, passwords, medical or tax records or other information that you would not want to be stored in email.
Information processed automatically
When you visit the Site, your browser sends a request to the servers that deliver it. Because the Site is delivered through Cloudflare, technical data about that request, such as your IP address, the pages requested, the date and time, browser and device type, referring page and similar network information, is processed by Cloudflare to deliver and secure the Site. Server-side request logs may be kept by our hosting provider, and we do not know the details of what is logged or for how long. The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a challenge that helps tell people from automated traffic. When you use the form, Turnstile may collect or evaluate browser and device signals, and the form submission is verified on the server side with Cloudflare. We do not know the full list of signals Turnstile uses, and its practices are described by Cloudflare. We do not configure analytics, session recording, fingerprinting or advertising tools on the Site.
Information received from others
We do not buy personal information or combine it with data from other sources. If someone else sends us information about you, for example in an email that mentions you, we might receive it, but we do not seek it out. Providers such as Cloudflare may receive and process information from you under their own policies, and we may see only limited summary or security information from them.
Cookies and local storage
The Site does not set cookies of its own. The light and dark theme toggle stores your color-scheme choice in your browser’s local storage on your device. This value is used by your browser to display the Site in your preferred mode, and it is not sent to us. Cloudflare Turnstile and Cloudflare’s security features may set or read their own cookies or similar storage, for example to detect abusive traffic or to complete the challenge on the contact form. We do not know exactly which ones apply at a given time. You can clear or block local storage and cookies in your browser settings, and the Site will still be readable, although your theme may reset and the contact form challenge may not work.
Legal Bases for Processing
The Site is directed at readers in the United States, and we are not aware that any particular law outside the United States applies to our operations. We do not rely on user consent for general site delivery, because the Site does not run optional tracking. When you choose to send a message, you give us the information in it so that we can read it and decide whether to respond. To the extent that a law requires a legal basis for processing, the limited processing described here is carried out for our legitimate interests in operating, delivering, securing and maintaining the Site, in preventing abuse of the contact form, in responding to messages that people choose to send us, in keeping records and in protecting our rights, and where required, to comply with legal obligations. We do not claim that a contract exists between us and readers solely because of this policy, and we do not claim that any particular law applies. If you believe that a different legal basis or law applies, please tell us.
How We Use Information
We use the limited information described in this policy for the following purposes.
- To deliver the Site and to keep it working, stable and secure, including by relying on providers that detect and block abusive traffic and automated form submissions.
- To remember your light or dark theme preference on your own device.
- To read and, where we choose, respond to messages and to review topic suggestions and corrections.
- To improve the accuracy and usefulness of the Site, for example by acting on a reported error.
- To investigate misuse and to enforce our Terms of Use.
- To comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests and protect our rights, property and safety and those of others.
We do not use contact details to send marketing, because we do not have a newsletter or mailing list. We do not sell personal information, we do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you. If we want to use information for a materially different purpose, we will update this policy first, and where the law requires it, obtain your consent.
Advertising and Tracking Technologies
The Site has no advertising configured, and it has no analytics configured. The Site does not run ad networks, retargeting pixels, social media tracking pixels, affiliate tracking scripts or cross-site tracking tools. Because of this, the Site does not itself engage in interest-based advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising. The Cloudflare Turnstile challenge and Cloudflare security features are used for security and abuse prevention, and we do not use them for advertising. The Disclosure explains that the Site also has no affiliate programs, no sponsorships and no free products from featured companies. If we later add advertising, analytics or affiliate links, which commonly use cookies, pixels and similar technologies, we will update this policy and the Disclosure before or when they are enabled. External websites that you reach through links may use their own advertising and tracking, which we do not control.
How We Share Information
We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may share or disclose information in the following limited situations.
- With service providers that deliver, host, secure and operate the Site and our contact channels, such as Cloudflare, who handle information on our behalf or for their own infrastructure purposes under their own terms. This includes Cloudflare’s forwarding of contact messages to the operator’s private inbox.
- When we believe disclosure is required by law, such as in response to a subpoena, court order or other lawful request, or when it is permitted by law and is reasonably necessary to protect our rights, property, safety or that of others, to investigate fraud or security issues or to enforce our Terms.
- In connection with a sale, merger, transfer of the Site or similar transaction, in which case information in our control, such as message correspondence, may be transferred to the successor.
- With your direction or consent, for example if you ask us to forward your message to someone.
- In aggregated or de-identified form that does not identify you.
We have not made contractual data-protection commitments with providers beyond those that their standard terms contain, and we do not claim otherwise.
Service Providers and Third-Party Services
The following providers play a role in operating the Site, and each has its own privacy practices.
- Cloudflare provides DNS, domain management, hosting and publishing infrastructure, HTTPS and security services. It also provides the Turnstile challenge on the contact form and the email routing and forwarding that carries contact messages to the operator. Cloudflare may process request data, such as IP addresses, and may set its own security cookies. We do not know the full extent of what it collects or retains, and its practices are described in its own privacy policy.
- The MTC publishing service builds and publishes the Site to Cloudflare. We have not identified any reader-facing data collection by that service.
- GitHub hosts the Site’s source code repository. It is not reader-facing, and readers’ visits to the Site do not go through it.
- The operator’s private email provider receives messages that Cloudflare forwards. We have not identified that provider here, and its practices are unknown to us.
The Site does not embed third-party widgets, social media plugins, video players, fonts or maps that we know to be loaded from outside providers for your visit, other than the infrastructure described above. If that changes, we will update this policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these providers, and we encourage you to review their policies.
Your Choices and Privacy Rights
You can use the Site without giving us any personal information, other than the technical data that is automatically exchanged when a browser connects to a website. Using the contact form or email is optional. You can control cookies and local storage in your browser settings, including by blocking or deleting them, and you can use private browsing or privacy tools. If you clear local storage, the Site forgets your theme choice. The Site does not run tracking that responds to a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, because it does not engage in the tracking or the sale or sharing of data that those signals address. Cloudflare may handle such signals under its own practices.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information about you, such as the right to know, access, correct, delete or obtain a copy, to opt out of certain processing or to appeal a decision. We do not operate a database of reader personal information, so the information that we hold about you is generally limited to messages that you have sent us, if any, which sit in the operator’s private inbox. To make a request, use the contact form or email hello@frugalhog.com, describe what you are asking for and identify the email address or other details that you used when you contacted us. Because delivery has not yet been confirmed by a live test, we cannot promise that we will receive a request, and we do not promise any response time. To protect you, we may ask for information that is enough to match your request to a message that we hold, and we may decline to act on a request if we cannot reasonably verify that it comes from the person it concerns. An authorized agent may submit a request for you, and we may ask for proof of authority. We may decline requests that are not permitted or required by law, that are excessive or that would infringe others’ rights, and we will explain why where the law requires. We cannot access or delete data held only by Cloudflare, by the operator’s mail provider under its own practices or by external sites, and you may need to contact them under their own procedures. We will not retaliate against you for making a request.
Security
The Site is delivered over HTTPS through Cloudflare, which helps protect the data in transit between your browser and the Site. The Site is static, has no accounts or login, and does not hold a database of reader information, and this reduces the information that could be exposed. The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, and submissions are verified on the server side to reduce automated abuse. We also rely on the security features of our infrastructure providers. We have not commissioned any independent security audit or certification, and we do not claim that any particular standard is met. No method of transmission over the internet or of electronic storage is completely secure, and email in particular is not a secure channel and may be read in transit or at the providers that handle it. The same caution applies to messages sent through the contact form, which are forwarded by email routing. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of the Site, our providers or any information, and you use the Site and send us information at your own risk. If we learn of a security incident that involves personal information in our control, we will respond as the law requires.
Retention
We have not set fixed retention periods for any information, and we do not have a retention schedule. The local storage theme setting stays on your device until you or your browser delete it, and we do not hold it. Request logs and security data held by Cloudflare or our hosting provider are kept under their own practices, and we do not know how long that is. If we receive a message, we expect to keep it for as long as it is reasonably useful to read, respond to, keep our records or protect our rights, or as the law requires, and then to delete it or leave it in routine email storage. Backups and provider copies may persist for some time after deletion. We may keep information longer if needed to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms or investigate security issues. If we adopt a specific retention schedule, we will update this policy.
Children’s Privacy
The Site is a general-audience site for adults who are looking to manage money, and it is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The Site has no accounts or comments, and the only way a child could send us information is through the contact form or by email, which we do not encourage. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child sent us personal information, please contact us through the contact form or at hello@frugalhog.com, and we will make reasonable efforts to delete it. If we learn that we have received personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. Please also note that the Site’s content is intended for adults, and minors should use it only with a parent or guardian.
International Processing and Provider Locations
The Site is directed at readers in the United States, and the operator’s location is unknown to us for this policy. Cloudflare operates a global network, and requests to the Site, to the Turnstile challenge and to email routing may be handled by servers in various countries, including outside your own, depending on how traffic is routed. We have not selected or confirmed specific data locations, and we do not know where our providers store logs or email. If you visit the Site from outside the United States, your data may be processed in the United States and other countries whose data-protection laws differ from yours. We have not established any specific cross-border transfer mechanism or safeguard of our own, and we do not claim that one exists, although our providers may have their own. By using the Site, you understand that your information may be handled as described here. We will update this section if we learn more about where data is processed.
External Websites and Services
Articles on the Site may link to external sources, official program pages, retailers, apps and other websites. These sites are not controlled by us, and they may collect information from you, set cookies, use trackers, show ads and share data under their own privacy policies. This policy does not apply to them, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. If you click a link, a site you visit may learn that you came from the Site, depending on your browser and its settings. Cash-back, coupon and money-saving apps and services in particular often collect extensive personal and financial data, so please read their privacy policies and terms before using them. Be careful about scams that imitate legitimate providers or programs and ask for personal or payment information.
California Privacy Information
California residents may have rights under California law, such as the right to know what personal information is collected, to request access, correction or deletion, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and not to be discriminated against for exercising rights. We have not determined whether the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to the operator of the Site, because the operator’s identity and the legal thresholds are not known to us, and we do not assert either that it does or that it does not. As the Site is currently configured, we do not sell personal information for money, we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of children under 16. The categories of information that we may receive are limited to identifiers and message contents that you send us through the contact form or by email, and technical network information that is processed by our infrastructure providers, as described above. We use this information only for the purposes in this policy. California residents may send a request through the contact form or to hello@frugalhog.com, subject to the procedures, verification and limits in the section on your choices and privacy rights, and subject to the limited confirmation of contact delivery described in the contact section. California’s Shine the Light law permits residents to ask about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing; we make no such disclosures.
Nevada and Other State Privacy Information
Some U.S. states, including Nevada, give residents rights regarding their personal information, such as opting out of the sale of certain covered information. We do not sell covered information as Nevada law defines it, and the Site does not currently engage in targeted advertising or the sale of personal data. Residents of Nevada who wish to submit an opt-out request, or anyone who lives in another state with its own privacy law, can use the contact form or email hello@frugalhog.com. We have not determined whether any state privacy statute applies to the operator, because the operator’s identity and the applicable thresholds are not known to us, and we do not claim coverage under any specific statute. Where a state law gives you a right that applies to us, we will honor it as the law requires, and you may also have the right to appeal a refusal or to contact your state attorney general.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add analytics, advertising or affiliate programs, if our providers change, or if the law changes. The updated version will be posted on this page, and the effective date at the top will change. The Site has no accounts or mailing list, so we do not send individual notices, and the posted page is the notice. If the law requires us to give more prominent notice or to obtain consent for a material change, we will do so. If we make a material change to how we use information that we have already received, we will not apply the change retroactively to that information without any consent that the law requires. Please review this page periodically, and note that your continued use of the Site after an update means that you accept the updated policy to the extent the law permits.
Contact and Complaints
You can contact us about this policy or your information through the contact form on the Contact page or at hello@frugalhog.com. Messages are forwarded through Cloudflare to the operator’s private inbox. Contact provisioning, email routing and forwarding were configured on October 6, 2026 and report ready. A real end-to-end delivery check has not yet been completed, so delivery has been set up but not confirmed by a live test. We therefore cannot confirm that a message will reach us, and we do not promise any response time. If you do not hear from us, you can try again later, and for urgent legal notices, you may wish to use another reasonable method, although we have not published a postal address. If you have a complaint about our handling of personal information, please tell us first so that we can try to address it. You may also have the right to contact a government authority, such as the Federal Trade Commission, your state attorney general or another privacy regulator in your area. This section will be updated when delivery is confirmed. For the rules that govern use of the Site, please see the Terms of Use, and for our commercial relationships, please see the Disclosure.
